Homeless Man Shares His Beautiful Melody on Piano- A Lesson on Humility and Compassion (Video)

From my primary blog- A wonderful song from a homeless man and some encouragement to help the homeless

Luke Austin Daugherty

The only real difference between a homeless person and a non-homeless person is a home. People with and without homes can have all the same wonderful personality traits as well as faults, successes as well as failures. Sometimes, people who find themselves homeless may have had great successes at times, but run up against an insurmountable problem that left them on the streets. Other times, addiction may be a driving force. Among all the reasons that a person ends up without a home, that person is just “us” in a different reality. Who knows if the shoe was on the other foot, that you or I would not be in the same situation or worse. Also, some people choose to live a transient lifestyle for more esoteric reasons rather than homelessness befalling them.

Some may protest, “BUT! Many of the homeless have problems and are on the streets because of…

What is The Butterfly Flutter Project?

Life is busy these days and sometimes we forget to have an intentional impact on our fellow humans for the better. Yet, very tiny actions and subtle variations in approach can produce a positive impact on others, whether directly or in a nonlinear fashion. This concept is commonly known as, “The Butterfly Effect.” For a more scholarly breakdown on the Butterfly Effect, please visit this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect

I believe that you and I possess the ability to have a huge impact on our world via the consistent utilization of small, positive behaviors in daily life. We can create positive ripples in the sea of humanity that will travel far beyond what we will ever see.

The Butterfly Flutter Project aims to encourage humans to impact other humans for the better, via tiny acts of kindness that can have huge impacts. The Butterfly Flutter Project is simple…

Every day:

1. Smile and greet at least one stranger- perhaps even engage in kind conversation if you have time

2. Tell someone you love that you love them

3. Share something positive on your social media

That is pretty much it!

Why call it a “project” rather than a “challenge”? The definition of the word “challenge” is- “a call to take part in a contest or competition, especially a duel.” Challenges are inherently adversarial. On the other hand, the first definition of the word “project” is- “an individual or collaborative enterprise that is carefully planned and designed to achieve a particular aim.” The Butterfly Flutter concept is an informal, cooperative project between willing and like-minded humans to have a positive impact on our fellow humans. It is not a contest or point of contention in any way. It is not affiliated with any religious ideology and is secular in nature. I hope you join in and share your stories in the comments! -Luke

Our First “Happy Tract” Has Been Ordered!

The first Happy Tract I designed and ordered

The first Happy Tract I designed and ordered

You may be familiar with “tracts.” They are small leaflets that typically have something to do with the Christian Gospel and the supposed method of avoiding damnation. Tracts have proven to be a great way to spread a message in person-to-person interactions. Yet, there are not really tracts around and available if you just want something to encourage other people without the baggage of religious dogma.

Enter… “Happy Tracts!” I designed and ordered my first Happy Tract earlier this week and should have a batch of 1,000 in the next few days. I am sorting out the details on how to provide them for others who may want to order them from me. Once I have that all figured out, I will post order info and the appropriate links.

Happy Tracts are a great way to have a small, but encouraging impact on a family member, friend, or stranger. Not only that, but it doesn’t hurt to remind yourself that you are wonderful every now and then!
